Privacy Policy
What we collect, where it lives, and what you control. The short version: your data exists to run the app for you — nothing else. No ad tracking, no selling data, ever.

What we collect
We store only what the app needs to work:
- Account: your email address, password (stored hashed — we never see it), and your birthday — used only to confirm you're 13 or older; it is never shown on your profile or to other people
- Profile: your name, @handle, bio, neighbourhood, account type, and profile photo
- Activity: your posts, comments, photos, votes, messages, event RSVPs, and friend/follow connections
There is no advertising tracking, no analytics profile built about you, and your data is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing.
Where your data lives
Everything is stored in a single Supabase project hosted in Canada (region ca-central-1) — your data stays on Canadian soil. Photos you upload go to Supabase Storage in a folder scoped to your account, and database row-level security rules ensure you can only ever edit or delete your own content.
Google sign-in
If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us to create your account. That's all we receive — we get no access to your Google account, contacts, or anything else, and we send nothing back to Google.
Cookies
myBackyard uses cookies for one thing: keeping you signed in (your auth session). There are no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, and no cross-site anything.
Retention and deleting your account
We keep your data for as long as you have an account — that's what makes your profile, posts, and connections work. We don't keep shadow copies of things you delete: removing a post or comment removes it.
You can delete your account yourself any time in Settings → Account. Deletion is permanent and immediate: your profile, posts, comments, photos, messages, RSVPs, and connections are removed for good. There's no soft-delete limbo and no "we'll keep it for 90 days".
Your rights and contact
Your data is yours. You can see and edit your profile in Settings, delete any content you've posted, and delete your whole account as described above. If you want a copy of your data, or have any question about how it's handled, email hello@mybackyard.space and a real person will sort it out.
If we ever change how data is handled, we'll update this page and the date at the top. See also the Terms of Use and How it works for the bigger picture of how the app is built.
