Privacy Policy

myBackyard is operated by Scott Adams under the Bonsai brand.

We store only what the app needs to work:

• Account: your email address, password (stored hashed — we never see it), and your birthday — used only to confirm you're 13 or older; it is never shown on your profile or to other people
• Profile: your name, @handle, bio, neighbourhood, account type, and profile photo
• Activity: your posts, comments, photos, votes, messages, event RSVPs, and friend/follow connections
• Post views: which posts you've had on screen while signed in — see “Post-view measurement” below for exactly what that means

There is no advertising tracking, no third-party analytics service, and your data is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing.

When post-view measurement is enabled, myBackyard measures which posts have been seen. A “view” is recorded when you are signed in and at least half of the post, or half of the available viewport for a tall post, has been visible for one continuous second in a visible tab — once per post per page visit. Each record holds the post, your account, the screen it was on (feed, profile, place) and the time. It is a visibility measurement, not a record of what you read or how you felt about it.

• Who can see it: only the platform owner, through a private owner console, to understand how the app is used and which posts reach people. Post authors do not see who viewed their post. Other users, clubs, businesses and moderators never see it.
• Retention: identified view records are scheduled for removal once older than 90 days. Cleanup runs daily, so removal is not instantaneous at the 90-day boundary; a delayed cleanup can extend that period.
• Deletion: deleting your account removes every view record tied to it immediately, and deleting a post removes its view records.
• Signed-out visitors are not measured, fingerprinted or given a hidden identifier.
• This is not advertising measurement: there is no advertiser access to individual view histories and no ad targeting using these records.

The native iOS app shows the same website inside an app shell, so this applies identically there.

We use Supabase for account authentication, our application database and uploaded files. We also use hosting and delivery providers to operate the website. A database region does not mean every provider processes all data in that country: email, authentication, hosting and support providers may process information in other countries. Access controls limit access to application records according to account and organization roles.

Club membership on myBackyard is free. We store the club, member, membership status and optional creator code so the club can manage its roster and provide member benefits. No card or billing information is collected for membership.

We email you about activity on your account, like friend requests, comments on your posts, mentions, invites and friends going to events you're going to. These are on by default; turn them off in Settings or with the unsubscribe link in any of them. When email delivery is configured, Resend processes the recipient address and message content. The event-import feature can send submitted source material to Anthropic to extract event details. These providers process information to perform the selected service; their own terms and privacy notices also apply.

If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us to create your account. That's all we receive — we get no access to your Google account, contacts, or anything else, and Google also processes the sign-in request under its own privacy terms.

myBackyard uses authentication cookies to keep you signed in. Sign-in providers may also use browser storage or collect technical information when you use their features.

We keep your data for as long as you have an account — that's what makes your profile, posts, and connections work. Deleting content removes it from the application. Backups, security logs and records held by service providers may follow separate retention schedules. Identified post-view records follow the cleanup schedule described above.

You can delete your account yourself any time in Settings → Account. Club membership is free and has no subscription or billing account to cancel.

Your data is yours. You can see and edit your profile in Settings, delete any content you've posted, and delete your whole account as described above. If you want a copy of your data, or have any question about how it's handled, email hello@mybackyard.space and a real person will sort it out.
